It’s hard to seriously imagine Michael Phelps regularly using a substance that causes a bad case of “the munchies”? (grin)
Phelps already requires a 12,000 calorie diet to fuel his workouts. According to the Wall Street Journal, here’s Michael Phelps’s typical menu:
- Breakfast: Three fried-egg sandwiches loaded with cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, fried onions and mayonnaise. Two cups of coffee. One five-egg omelet. One bowl of grits. Three slices of French toast topped with powdered sugar. Three chocolate-chip pancakes.
- Lunch: One pound of enriched pasta. Two large ham and cheese sandwiches with mayo on white bread. Energy drinks packing 1,000 calories.
- Dinner: One pound of pasta. An entire pizza. More energy drinks.
The potential affects of marijuana use on an athlete?
- Impairs skills requiring eye-hand coordination and a fast reaction time
- Reduces motor coordination, tracking ability and perceptual accuracy
- Impairs concentration, and time appears to move more slowly
- Skill impairment may last up to 24 to 36 hours after usage
- Reduces maximal exercise capacity resulting in increased fatiguability
Marijuana has no performance-enhancing potential. Unless, of course, someone is standing at the finish line with a bag of Doritos.
